The institute became a state private university known as ITM University, Gurgaon, in the academic year 2009–10 under Act No. 25 of 2009 by the Government of Haryana and received UGC approval under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. Later renamed The NorthCap University, it became an unaided, self-financed private university in 2010, recognized by the UGC under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act 1956 and approved by the Bar Council of India. The university holds the authority to confer degrees under Section 22(1) of the UGC Act and is listed among approved universities by both UGC and BCI.
