The CBSE Two Board Examinations for Class 10 from 2026 introduced a new examination system to provide students with greater flexibility and an opportunity to improve their performance. CBSE announced this policy through its notification dated 25 June 2025, in line with the recommendations of NEP 2020.
Under this system, students are required to appear in the first/main Board Examination. Eligible students can then appear in the second examination for improvement in up to three main subjects, including Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages. Students with a compartment result can also appear in the second examination under the applicable category.
The notification states that the first examination is conducted around mid-February, while the second examination is conducted in May. Internal assessment is conducted only once before the main examinations. Both examinations are based on the full syllabus for the academic year, and the scheme of studies remains the same.
The results of the first examination are declared in April, while the results of the second examination are declared in June. The policy also provides for post-result facilities such as verification and re-evaluation after the second examination.
Students can use this new system as an opportunity to improve their preparation, identify weak areas and perform better in eligible subjects.
