About Maharaja Bir Bikram University
Maharaja Bir Bikram University (MBBU) was established on 1 November 2015 through the Maharaja Bir Bikram University Act, 2015, and is the only state university of Tripura. Named after the last king of Tripura, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, it carries forward his legacy of educational and social development. Located on a 19.14-acre lush campus at College Tilla, MBBU evolved from the Vidyapattanam project, which established Tripuras first degree college in 1947. The University began in 2016 with four departments—Political Science, Mathematics, Library & Information Science, and English—and has since added postgraduate programmes, including MLISc and M.A. in History. It is recognized by the UGC under section 22 and 12B. 1741
