About Cluster University
Acharya Nagarjuna University derives its name and inspiration from Acharya Nagarjuna, the great Buddhist philosopher who founded an ancient center of learning on the banks of the River Krishna centuries ago. The present university, located close to that historic site, continues to draw moral and intellectual strength from his legacy. The University was established through Act 43 of 1976 of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature and is governed under Act 4 of 1991, which covers six universities in the state. It was renamed Acharya Nagarjuna University through the A.P. Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2004. To meet the higher education needs of the southern coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Andhra University established a Post-Graduate Centre at Nallapadu, Guntur, in 1976. This Centre evolved into a full-fledged university in August 1976, fulfilling a long-cherished aspiration of the region.
