About Forest Research Institute
Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, aims to impart education in various branches of forestry and environment, and to promote research and the dissemination of knowledge in these fields. Its major disciplines include Silviculture, Resource Survey, Social Forestry, Ecology and Conservation, Genetics, Forest Protection, Forest Botany, and Forest Operations. Key focus areas include biodiversity, tree improvement, quality seed production, non-wood forest products, afforestation, and modern forestry tool development. FRI also works to raise public awareness about forests and the environment through extension programs. Established as a Forest School in 1878 and renamed several times, FRI became part of ICFRE in 1988 and was granted Deemed University status in 1991 by the Government of India. 1530
