About Kannur University
Kannur University was established through the Act 22 of 1996 by the Kerala Legislative Assembly. Initially known as Malabar University, it came into existence via an ordinance by the Governor of Kerala on 9th November 1995 and was formally inaugurated on 2nd March 1996 by the Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri A.K Antony. The purpose of the Kannur University Act is to create a teaching, residential, and affiliating university to enhance higher education in Kasargod, Kannur, and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad. The university operates as a multi-campus institution, with facilities in Kannur, Kasaragod, Nileswaram, Mangattuparamba, Mananthavady, Payyannur, Thalassery, and other locations, offering advanced study and research opportunities in Science, Technology, and other disciplines to promote knowledge and innovation. 1651
