About Sido Kanhu Murmu University

Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU), formerly known as Sido Kanhu University, was established on 10 January 1992 through an Act of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. After the creation of the state of Jharkhand in 2000, the university came under its jurisdiction. On 31 May 2007, it received recognition from the University Grants Commission under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The university’s jurisdiction covers six districts of the Santhal Pargana region, where its 13 constituent colleges and 9 permanently affiliated colleges are located.
