About Central Institute of Fisheries Education
ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) is a premier Fisheries University with a rich legacy of over 60 years. Established on 6 June 1961 under the Ministry of Agriculture with FAO/UNDP support, it came under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 1979, expanding its mandate to education, research, and extension. Recognizing its vital role in developing skilled fisheries professionals, CIFE was granted Deemed-to-be-University status on 29 March 1989. Since then, it has significantly grown, building the capabilities of over 4,000 fisheries extension and development personnel. Today, CIFE stands as a leading centre of excellence and a trusted name in fisheries higher education. 1449
