About Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (TMV) was established in 1921 as a tribute to Lokmanya Tilak after his passing, inspired by Mahatma Gandhis vision of a national university. Rooted in Tilaks principles of National Education, Swaraj, Swadeshi, and Boycott of Foreign Goods, TMV became a center of excellence in Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Social Sciences, Arts, Commerce, and Engineering. Led by eminent scholars and national leaders as Chancellors, TMVs degrees were widely recognized even before independence. In 1987, acknowledging its contribution to education and research, the Government of India granted TMV the status of Deemed to be University. TMV was also an early pioneer of distance education, launching programs even before IGNOU and YCMOU. 1464
