About Punjab Agriculture University
Dr Prem Nath Thapar, the first Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, served from 1962 to 1968 and was instrumental in laying the foundation for India’s Green Revolution. He built a team of visionary scientists, driving the university’s growth and agricultural advancements. Honored with an honorary Doctor of Science by Ohio State University in 1969, Dr Thapar championed education, research, and extension to transform Indian agriculture. Born on April 13, 1903, he was a distinguished civil servant and Oxford alumnus, contributing significantly to post-partition rehabilitation and Chandigarh’s development. Dr Thapar passed away on November 11, 1982, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian agriculture, education, and institutional development.
