About Madurai Kamaraj University
Madurai Kamaraj University has been progressing steadily for over 53 years, overcoming various challenges and consistently striving toward excellence. Established in 1965 through a bill passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, it is a statutory university funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the University Grants Commission. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and is among the nine institutions in India recognized as a University with Potential for Excellence. Several universities, including Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Alagappa University and Mother Teresa University, originated from it. The University currently serves four districts—Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul and Theni—and houses 77 departments, 20 schools, 21 academic centres and 21 supportive units, along with numerous affiliated and autonomous colleges. 1721
