About Tamilnadu Agricultural University
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) originated from an Agricultural School established in Saidapet, Madras, in 1868 and later shifted to Coimbatore. It was affiliated to Madras University in 1920 and became the main centre for agricultural education and research in South India until 1946. Recognised as a postgraduate centre in 1958, it expanded with the establishment of the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai, in 1965. These institutions formed the nucleus of TNAU when it was established in 1971. Over the years, the University introduced several specialised programmes and opened new colleges across Tamil Nadu. Today, with over 32 research stations and more than 1200 scientists and faculty, TNAU remains a leading institution in agricultural education, research and innovation. 1727
